What is the “Maggie Magic” in Your Maggie Sottero Wedding Dress?

Let’s talk about the real secret that makes a Maggie Sottero wedding dress feel like it was made for that beautiful moment when a bride steps in front of the mirror and instantly glows. That feeling is not an accident. It is the “Maggie Magic,” and it comes from decades of thoughtful design, interior structure, and a deep understanding of how a gown should feel on a body.

It all started when one of our founders, Lesley Webster, bought a simple corset. That one piece sparked everything. She started sketching gowns around the idea of support and sculpting. She imagined dresses that shaped beautifully, felt secure, and gave brides that “oh my gosh, this is it” moment. When those early designs hit the shop floor, brides were stunned. The fit. The confidence. The structure. The way everything felt intentional. It changed everything.

By the time Maggie Sottero entered the U.S. around 1997, the response caught on like wildfire. Brides wanted that signature fit that you could not find anywhere else. That legacy continues today.

Here is what creates that signature Maggie Magic feeling:

Interior Support That Works With the Body

Our gowns are intentionally built from the inside out using supportive, soft, and sculpting elements such as:

  • Inner corsetry that shapes comfortably
  • Strategic boning for structure without stiffness
  • Bra cup grading so each size actually feels custom
  • Inner elastic that keeps everything secure
  • Built-in shapewear for smoothing and confidence
  • Soft jersey lining that feels like a dream on skin
  • Supportive bodices crafted for movement and comfort
  • Strap variations that match different support needs
  • Raised front and back necklines for a secure but elegant feel

Most of our strapless gowns will have some kind of inner elastic or corset unless it is sheer. For sizes 16 and up, we utilize center front and princess seam boning for added support, and bra cups are graded with four different sizes:

  • Small bra cups for bridal sizes 0-8
  • Medium bra cups for bridal sizes 10-16
  • Large bra cups for bridal sizes 18-20
  • XL bra cups for sizes 22-28

Here at Maggie Sottero, we also offer different colored bra cups to match different skin tones. We have nude, medium nude, and dark nude options for brides to choose from when ordering your dress.

Fit That Never Settles

Fit is the heart of Maggie Magic. We never compromise on quality or structure. Ever. Brides often describe slipping into a Maggie gown as feeling:

  • Held
  • Supported
  • Sculpted
  • Confident
  • Emotional

That is not something you can fake. It comes from decades of perfecting the interior engineering of a dress so a bride can feel like the best, truest version of themself.

Celebrating All Body Shapes And Sizes

We design styles that create a perfect fit for every bride so they can feel like the best version of themselves.

Diversity in bridal is not just a phrase, it is an action. To promote our inclusive sizing and impeccable construction made for plus-size brides, we partnered with curve fashion pioneer, Liris Crosse, for Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week in 2018. As the first plus-size supermodel to win Project Runway’s modeling competition, she was able to help us forge a path toward a brighter and more inclusive future in bridal.

Starting the conversations about accessibility within the bridal space is important and Maggie is excited to lead. Through our partnerships with Models of Diversity, All Bodies, All Brides, and with one of our influencers, Lona, we are inspired to bring awareness and elevate brides of all backgrounds, paving the way for inclusion within our bridal communities worldwide.
