It all started my sophomore year of High School. I went to a dance with an upperclassman and was having the worst night imaginable. My date was anything but great, and I was just sitting at the table, not dancing with anyone. To my surprise, a classmate of Grant's grabbed me and dragged me to the dance floor, and then proceeded to grab Grant, and the three of us ended up dancing to a song or two. So, my night got a little better, and after it came to an end, I rushed home and told my mom all about this "older guy that I danced with".
It took a whole year for us to ever speak again..and wouldn't you know it..right around the same time as the dance we had first met at..just a year later. Everything about our first date seemed to of went wrong..but something must of went right. We must of felt something, because we hung out a few more times, and sure enough..there was something special there. We officially started dating a few weeks later, and yes..we went to the dance together!
Years later we had planned a road trip to New York City with two of our very best friends, Drew Huard & Brittany Ramsey. The four of us had always dreamed of going to NYC to see the famous ball drop for New Years Eve. After a long drive there, and I mean LONG, we arrived to our hotel in New Jersey.
After standing for hours, talking for hours, listening to Jennifer Lopez, and seeing Nick Lachey..it was almost time! My hands were so cold, and I kept asking Grant if I could put my hands in his pockets, and he was being grumpy and wouldn't let me! I think that's when I knew something fishy was going on..The final hour was the most anticipated countdown and it was beyond thrilling. When the crowd started counting down with one final minute to go, we could barely stand the excitement. It was everything you wanted it to be, the rush was amazing. You stood there, realizing you had been waiting 12 hours for this..and it was finally here. The fireworks, the crowd, the countdown..and then it happened..I was so excited and so focused on the ball..Grant screams "Honey!!" and there he was, handsome as ever..with that ring in a little black box. He stood there (we were way to crammed for him to get down on one knee) with this big grin, and asked me if I would marry him. It's hard to find the right words to explain the feeling you get when you know you get to be with your best friend for the rest of your life...it's indescribable. Of course I cried, and screamed yes as he slipped the ring on my finger. It was everything you could ever dream of..the trip, the new year, and what it brought for us.
Our wedding took place on October 6, 2012 at Castle Farms in Charlevoix, Michigan. It was set to be a beautiful outdoor, fall ceremony with a lovely indoor reception. However, with the Michigan weather, it ended up snowing that day, and our ceremony was moved inside. Not to mention, a mouse ran out during our ceremony where we had written thoughtful words for a "Honoring of the Parents". It definitely made for unforgettable memories... our wedding was full of friends, family, tears of joy, tons of laughter, and truly the best day of our lives yet. We had an antique, vintage, shabby-chic wedding, with custom burlap silverware pouches, banners, old wooden ladders that strung pictures from our last 6 years together..it was a night full of us. Our pictures take us back to that day, and we can't help but be filled with joy. Truly amazing..
